Bathroom Vanity Features Additional Colors and Finishes

Duravit celebrated its collaboration with designer Philippe Starck by introducing his bathroom design, the Starck 1 Barrel Vanity, in a range of additional finishes and colors. Duravit first began working with the designer in 1994, with his resulting Starck 1 collection achieving success and maintaining that status to this day. With a more than 25 year partnership under their belts, the latest edition of the Starck 1 barrel proves the power of enduring design.

To inspire the original series, Starck looked to the most minimal bathing elements, a bowl, bucket, and handpump, and applied them to a modern setting. The Starck barrel plays with the role of bucket and bowl, with a tapered shape that extends to the ground with curves on the outside. The range of surface finishes for this piece has included real-wood oak veneers and dark Macassar, Oak , American Walnut, Black, and White High Gloss. A fresh take on color has been injected, with shades such as Night Blue Satin Matte Lacquer, Light Blue Satin Matte Lacquer, Stone Grey Satin Matte Lacquer, and Taupe Satin Matte Lacquer.

Each Starck barrel is crafted with care. The conical unit on which the circular ceramic washbasin stands is based on glued plywood, which has undergone a multi-stage curving process. On the outside, it is covered either with a real-wood veneer protected by a melamine resin finish or with a paintable laminate in preparation for the subsequent high-gloss paint finish. Inside, the barrel is lined with black laminate and a glass shelf, and the curved doors allow for a wide opening angle. After producing the door cut-outs, a wall connector is attached on the rear side for the water inlet and outlet piping. The pieces of each individual barrel are provided with serial numbers to ensure that the right components are fitted together. Each barrel is thus a one-off product incorporating hand craftsmanship.
